About Valley of Flowers
The valley was first discovered by a group of mountaineers who were returning from an expedition to Mt. Kamet. In the year 1980, the valley of the flower was declared as a national park and in 2000, the Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve added it as a second core zone.

There are about 500 varieties of flowers that are found here and some of them even have medicinal properties. Since a number of plant species are considered threatened, any kind of animal grazing is not allowed in this region.

The stunning landscape of The Valley of Flowers National Park in the northern India's state of Uttarakhand, bordered by Nepal and Tibet, comes alive with the monsoon rain. During monsoon when the entire regions bloom with colourful flowers it seems no less than like a carpet of flowers against the snow-clad mountains in the background.

The Valley of Flowers National Park is located in Chamoli Garhwal, close to Nanda Devi National Park. It’s about 595 kilometers (370 miles) from Delhi and has an altitude that varies from 10,500 feet to 21,900 feet above sea level.

The Valley of Flowers is also believed to be the place from where Hanuman brought the magical herb to resuscitate Lakshman in the Hindu epic Ramayan. Just as you set your foot into the valley, the intoxicating mix of fragrances emitted from the flowers makes you feel in a paradise.

In this trek, you come across the famous pilgrimage site named Hemkund Sahib, which is the most challenging part of this entire trek. The reason this being the most difficult part is you tend to gain an altitude of almost 4000 feet within few hours.
