TRIUND TREK

About Triund Trek, McLeodganj

Triund, situated at an altitude of 9,278ft. is one of the most popular trek to go over a weekend from Delhi and Chandigarh. This trek has a lot to offer you right from the starting of the trek. The trek gives a picturesque view of the mighty Dhauladhar ranges and the Kangra Valley. It starts from the town of Mcleodganj, which itself is famous for monasteries, temples, waterfalls, lakes, and other such beauties. Mcleodganj is also known as "Little Lhasa" or "Dhasa" because of its large settlement of Tibetians in the region. Mcleodganj was named after Sir Donald Friell McLeod, a Lieutenant Governor of Punjab.

It is one of the most popular and easiest treks in the state of Himachal Pradesh. Every year thousands of trekkers from different corners of India come and visit this wonderland irrespective of the season.

The trail to the Triund top is full of green grass, Oak trees, Pine forest, and Rhodeodaran forests that has majestic views of the Dhauladhar ranges. The best time to do this trek is March to June or from September to December.

Triund is not less than any winter paradise, it gets fully covered with snow during the winter season and the white blanket of snow gives a serene view of the open ground and the snow-clad mountains surrounding it adds more charm to it, Monsoon season is generally not recommended as the trail is steep and gets slippery and becomes a bit risker for the first time trekkers. Only the experienced trekkers can pave their way out through the rough trails during the monsoon season.

Another fascinating thing about this trek is that it doesn't end there at the top, one can trek further to the Lahesh Cave and then to the Indrehar Pass. Indrehar Pass is at an elevation of 4300mtrs. so the trail gets much steeper at the end.

Itinerary

Day-1: McLeodganj to Triund Top

Start the trek as early as possible from McLeodganj, because the earlier you reach your campsite, the earlier you can sit for watching the sunset. Also, the trail is not that smooth enough and has a steep ascent at some points so it is always better to reach the location within daylight to avoid any problems in the unknown place. On way, you can take a quick break at the cafes to boost up your energy and have some food or drink.

Reach your campsite, freshen up, take a rest, and witness the most beautiful sunset ever while the cool breeze constantly refreshes you.

You will be served some hot evening snacks, with a bonfire (only if the forest official permits). As it gets dark you will get to see millions of stars just above you which is no less than a galaxy. Have your dinner and take a rest or stargaze and if you are good with cameras, then this can be your best night for astrophotography.

Day-2: Triund Top to McLeodganj

Try waking up early morning and witness the best sunrise before we start descending down to the town. The other beautiful thing apart from the sunset of the last day is the same sun rising today. The sunrise from the Triund top is not less than magic as the sun rays light up the entire Kangra Valley.

After having your breakfast with a splendid view of the mountains start packing your bag and gradually we start descending down to the town. The same trail looks so beautiful when the sun rays pave its way all through the forests making everyone fall in love with nature and mountains.
